Facts About the New York Dolls Band

New York Dolls' musical genre is recognized as punk, or glam punk, also as glam rock. The band was originally formed in 1971 in New York City. The band had several changes in its line-up, but two members namely David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain remained since 1971 up to the present. The two are joined by Brian Delany, Kenny Aaronson, and Earl Slick.

To date, they have produced 5 studio albums, 6 live albums, 7 singles, and 18 compilation albums. They are said to have influenced the succeeding punk bands in New York, such as Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television and even Aerosmith. A friend remarked that the original New York Dolls must be musical geniuses, to have influenced the next generation of punk bands. Their looks and get up as well as heavy make-up must have also influenced the looks of the '80s glam rock bands.

In the past 40 years of existence, the band went through a lot, with some of its members now deceased. Sylvain Sylvain, despite the many years of accolade from its fellow musicians, worked as a cab driver. David Johansen on the other hand assumed the name "Buster Poindexter" and produced a single entitled "Hot Hot Hot" that became a hit and top the chart in the '80s. It was reported that with Buster Poindexter, Johansen had achieved a great commercial success. Sylvain had also formed his own band, and produced an album entitled "Sleep Baby Doll".

Sylvain and Johansen met again in 2005 and decided to take a tour and produce an album entitled "One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This". For sure it would please them to remember the succeeding days. New York Dolls had embarked on a series of tours, shows and performances thereafter. Apparently, it is another phase in the life of Johansen and Sylvain. There are more punk bands around now, than when they first started. There is so much to expect from New York Dolls, as they have lined up a series of tours and performances for this year.

Their albums are comprised of New York Dolls (1973), Too Much Too Soon (1974), One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This (2006), Cause I Sez So (2009) and Dancing Backward in High Heels (2011).

It was reported that New York Dolls is currently having an International Tour. You can search for tickets and see their performing live on the stage.
