What to Look for When Hiring a Jazz Band

When you hire a jazz band to perform live, it should be one that suits the event. There are a few factors that indicate whether a band is appropriate for an event or not. Consider these aspects before you are choosing one of the jazz bands for hire in your area:

Appearance

One of the most important aspects to look at when hiring a jazz band is their uniform. Most jazz bands have a uniform they wear when they perform. The uniform should suit the event for which they will be hired. For instance, if you want to hire the band for a corporate event, the ideal look for it will be formal attire that gives the performers a sharp and smart appearance. On the other hand, if the event is a children's party, the band should wear casual and colorful uniforms.

Space

Find out how many in the band will be performing at the event. Depending on that, you can decide how much space will have to be allocated at the venue for the band to perform conveniently. This is an important aspect that may get overlooked. The band should be assigned a place where the acoustics are optimal so the music gets carried everywhere in the room. In case the event is being handled by a planner, inform him about where you want the band to perform.

Pricing

Most jazz bands for hire charge fees according to a standard rate. As jazz is a specific kind of music that takes years of practicing to perfect, it is possible that the band you hire may charge more than a band that does not specialize. Remember that if you are keen on having jazz music playing at the event, paying the price will be worth the money.

Performance

Before you hire a jazz band, listen to their performance. Some bands provide tapes of their performance. Though this will give you an idea of what the band sounds like, you should ideally listen to them perform live. This way you can find out whether their style suits your requirement. If it is not possible to watch them perform live, request a video recording of one of the band's previous performances.

Also, enquire whether the band is comfortable playing songs that you request or they perform only a set of songs. Based on this and what is required for the event, you can hire the band. It is important to find out the experience the band has had in performing live and the kind of events at which they have played previously. Ideally the band you hire should be one that has played for several years.
