Toby Keith: Singer, Songwriter and What Makes His Songs So Captivating

Toby Keith was born on July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma. He married Tricia Lucas in 1984 and they have three children, two daughters and a son. One of his daughter's, Krystal did a duet with her father. The song was a remake of James Taylor and Carly Simon's Mockingbird. They performed the song in 2004 and it reached the top 25 on the charts.

Toby has received numerous awards for his music some of which are from the Academy of Country Music - Top Male Vocalist, Album of the Year, and Entertainer of the year. Other awards are from the American Music Awards - Favorite Country Artist and from Billboard - Country Artist of the Decade.

When listening to an artist's album if one can find a few, really good songs on it then that is considered good. But when one listens to a Toby Keith album just about all the songs are good. And there's a reason for this. In the titles of the songs, Toby uses a hook which grabs your attention. It's not just a song title. In many cases it's a great song title.

The following Toby Keith songs are some of my favorites. Now remember I said songs but I'd like you to listen to each of the titles slowly. You'll see how the hooks not only grab your interest but even if you're not sure about the story you're anxious to explore the song itself. And so, here are some of those great titles:

How Do You Like Me Now

Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue

I Love This Bar

As Good as I Once Was

Wish I Didn't Know Now

American Soldier

Get Drunk and Be Somebody

Tryin' To Fall in Love

Don't Leave, I Think I Love You

Mockingbird

The other thing that makes a Toby Keith song a hit is the way he phrases his lyrics. Sometimes he does it with small hooks but he always makes the story interesting in the way that he groups the words.

White Trash With Money

I found the story of Toby's album title "White Trash With Money" quite interesting. I always enjoy hearing how a songwriter picks a title for an album or a song.
It seems Toby's daughter got into an argument with another teenage girl in town and the other girl's mother said to her daughter 'you shouldn't run with them, they're just white trash with money.' This comment upset Toby's wife but he viewed it as a gift because as he said 'I'm the king of that stuff. And I thought to myself now my kids are heirs to the throne of the white trash with money. I decided we should use that as the title of my next album cover. I don't have a song cut with that title but it's just in the spirit of it all.'

Patriotism

Besides creating awesome songs Toby does not forget our military servicemen. His patriotism is evident by song titles such as "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" and "American Soldier." Loyal to his fans at home and dedicated to performing shows overseas for our men and women in uniform are admirable traits.

Charity

By the way, please keep in mind Toby's charity named the "OK Kids Korral." It's a branch of the Toby Keith Foundation.org site that targets the specific needs of children with cancer.

When asked about his songwriting Toby once said that writing a song has always been an easy thing for him. I for one hope that it will always be easy for this brilliant songwriter who has given us songs that grab our attention and bring a smile to our faces with his interesting stories.
