Why The Guitar Is So Cool

That's because when you learn the guitar you open yourself up to an enormous multitude of musical genres. Unlike the violin or the cello where you are mostly confined to classical music, with guitar you can find a relevant place in almost everything from Jazz to Blues, Soul to Rock and Reggae to Folk.

Upon learning guitar and with some more experience you will see the close connections with other styles of music from around the world. Notice the relatives of guitar, some of the most famous being, the Oud from the Middle East and the Sitar from India. Experimenting with these instruments is an option when you have spent some time with the guitar.

The ultimate guitar style is, of course, Flamenco music, which I can personally testify to being the most complex form of music per se and one that it is wonderfully all-consuming. Many aficionados of guitar have spent a good degree of time delving into the world of flamenco music.

Yet one doesn't have to be an aficionado to take pleasure from the guitar and see the joy it brings to others around you. One of the most beautiful elements to guitar playing is that many styles are relatively simple to pick up. One doesn't have to spend years playing in order to master popular songs by artists such as the Beatles and Bob Marley or for that matter to be able to play the blues. In addition, there are so many self taught guitarists around and throughout the history of the instrument that are a testament to how accessible and rewarding it can be as a musical medium.

Having spent much time travelling and playing music I have witnessed the effects that guitar music can have wherever I have been in the world. It is a fantastic way to bring people together by playing songs and singing with each other, and never fails to bring life and soul to any party where the people love to hear live music.

The guitar is my favourite instrument f you hadn't noticed! And it is one that I have devoted so much of my time to and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. For that I am truly happy. So no matter where you are in life and whatever level you hope to achieve if you want to learn the guitar go for it. I have students from all over the world that come to me for lessons, some are still at school, some run their own businesses, some are family people, some work as bankers and some are professionals. One thing is certain, you will get much joy from this wonderful and diverse instrument!
